Why upcycling can be more effective then recycling
Most of food packaging uses plastic these days. Things were looking better after long struggles of environmentalists and packaging companies were starting to use sustainable materials, until Covid-19 pandemic showed up and ruined everything. Yes, it is true that during the pandemic, we need impermeable materials for food packaging boxes, but this has led to spread of plastic waste to such as large extent, that it has sped up the deterioration of planet. Packaging serves four basic functions: Protection Preservation Promotion Convenience Now, these four functions can be fulfilled by using sustainable materials. Covid-19 can be avoided by practicing good hygiene and staying careful. But humans had to do things in the worst way possible. Packaging companies used this pandemic as an edge to justify their disastrous business practices.
